our roots

born from a long-time taro farmer and a local boy who saw that the real problem wasn’t that Hawai’i imports over 90% of her food- it was that more people weren’t growing their own

taro stewards began as a simple idea: when we nurture taro, taro nurtures us and our ecosystems

what began with taro is now supported by growing research showing that caring for the land improves mental health, builds community resilience, and restores the ecosystems we all depend on

Aligned with the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development — Goal #2: End hunger, achieve food security, and promote sustainable agriculture

the impact of stewardship

“…we eat poi all the time but we don't always get to enjoy how its made and so its nice to get to participate in that process”

before today I thought stewardship was a job that required lots of time and effort. Now, I realize that we can all play a small part and care for the land and be stewards of ʻāina in small ways in our everyday lives.”

I feel like I’m in therapy. Like clearing my mind, getting back to like, who I am.”
